One of the most common things I hear from parents is: "My child won't eat healthy food because they just want sweets." My answer is always the same β let's make the sweets work for them. These dark chocolate almond butter cups are the treat I recommend to every family I work with. Dark chocolate (70% cacao or higher) is genuinely one of the best magnesium-rich foods available, and magnesium is one of the nutrients most consistently deficient in children with ADHD. Pair that with almond butter's healthy fats and vitamin E, and you have a treat that tastes indulgent but actively nourishes your child's brain.
The cacao percentage matters here β don't go below 70%. The higher the cacao, the more magnesium and antioxidants, and the less sugar. If your child finds 70% too bitter at first, start with 70% and mix in a small amount of honey into the chocolate layer. Over a few weeks, their palate will adjust and they'll love it as-is. I've never had a child turn these down. You can also use sunflower seed butter instead of almond butter for a nut-free school-safe version.
